Ambernath taluka is in Thane district and the geographical area of Ambernath taluka is 30021 sq. Km is so much. Population of the taluka as per 2011 census, rural population is 125011. Among them, 65804 men and 59207 women, 12763 castes and 18822 tribals, and the total population of urban areas is 440329. Caste is 63373 and Anu tribe is 17399. The total number of rural families in the taluka is 27662. There are 4498 families below the poverty line in the taluka out of which 437 belong to Anujati and 2227 belong to Anu tribe and 1834 other families. In Maharashtra, a development group committee for 75,000 to 1 lakh population and 100 to 125 villages has given more powers to the panchayat samiti. In Maharashtra, there is one Panchayat Samiti for each group under Section 56 of the Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti Act, 1961. The administrative head of the Panchayat Samiti is the Group Development Officer. Group Development Officer is also known as BDO. The Group Development Officer is appointed through the State Govt. Group Development Officer is a Class-1 and Class-2 officer of Rural Development Department. He works as the secretary of Panchayat Samiti
