Shahapur taluka in Thane district is a tribal dominated taluka and the population of Shahapur taluka is 313151 as per the 2011 census. Shahapur taluka is surrounded by mountains and valleys. Mahuli Fort is a scenic spot in the west of the taluka. Sahyadri Mountains are in the east and in the lap of this mountain range, the taluka is adorned withAjaparvat is there. There is a tomb of sage Valmiki there. There are reservoirs in this taluka, Tansa, Bhatsa, Vaitarna and water is supplied to the entire Mumbai from these reservoirs. Since it is a taluka of mountainous valleys, the main occupation of the people here is agriculture and wage labor. Most of the people belong to the Thakur, Katkari and Kunbi communities.
Introduction
As per Rule 56 of the Maharashtra Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti Act, 1961, there shall be one Panchayat Samiti for each group and all the functions vested in it under this Act or otherwise shall be the functions of the Panchayat Samiti.
Every Panchayat Samiti shall consist of members elected by direct election, one from each electoral division, in accordance with the provisions of section 58 and the rules made thereunder.
Vision and Mission
- Subject to the general orders of the Chief Executive Officer, leave of absence shall be granted to officers or employees in the service of Class III or Class IV of the Zilla Parishad working under the control of the Panchayat Samiti.
- Any information, statement, statement, account, report or explanation may be sought from any officer or employee.

- The State Government shall exercise such powers as may be specified by it in respect of the works and development projects to be undertaken under the Group Grants in connection with the acquisition or sale or transfer of property.
- Power to inspect the property of the Panchayat Samiti.
- To inspect the development projects initiated by the Panchayat Samiti or Zilla Parishad.
- Any information, statement, return, account or report may be requested from any officer or employee working for the Panchayat Samiti.
- Any immovable property in the possession of the Zilla Parishad in the group or any establishment under the control and management of the Zilla Parishad or Panchayat Samiti in the group or any work or development project undertaken by the Zilla Parishad or under the direction of such Panchayat Samiti in the group may be entered and inspected.
