    MNREGA

    Introduction

    The Government of India passed the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005 in September, 2005. The Act gives legal guarantee of a hundred days of wage employment in a financial year to adult members of a rural household who demand employment and are willing to do unskilled manual work.The scheme is implemented in Thane District with effect from 1st April 2007.

    Vision& Mission

    • The scheme focuses on employment of rural farmers/agricultural laborers by providing social security, empowering women and weaker sections, and strengthening Panchayat Raj Institutions also generation of productive assets, protecting and conservation of the environment through transparent process. Infrastructure built under Mahatma Gandhi NREGS leads to increased water availability for irrigation, groundwater recharge, increased agricultural production and carbon sequestration.

    Objectives & Functions

    Every household residing in any rural area is entitled to a Job Card which contains the names and photographs of all adult members of the household so that they can demand and receive work. The Job Card is a key document that records job seekersdetails of work demanded and received wages, paid etc. The current wage rate for the year 2024-2025 is Rs.297/- per day. As per the work the wages are deposited in the workers bank or post account.

    Works creating individual assets will be prioritised on land or homestead owned by householdsbelonging to the:

    1. Schedule Caste
    2. Schedule Tribes
    3. Nomadic Tribes
    4. De-notified Tribes
    5. Other families below the poverty line
    6. Women-headed households
    7. Physically handicapped headed households
    8. Beneficiaries of land reforms
    9. The beneficiaries under the IAY/PMAY-Gramin
    10. Beneficiaries under the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006 (2 of 2007), and after exhausting the eligible beneficiaries under the above categories, on lands of the small or marginal farmers as defined inthe Agriculture Debt Waiver and Debt Relief Scheme, 2008 subject to the condition that such households shall have a job card with atleast one member willing to work on the project undertaken on their land or homestead.

    Employment Guarantee Scheme (EGS) Division is working under Planning Department, Government of Maharashtra.
    The EGS Division is headed by the officer of the rank of Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Maharashtra. The MGNREGS is under implementation whole of the state except for Mumbai City and Mumbai Suburban Districts..

    Schemes/Programmes

    MGNREGS is a Centrally government scheme. Jointly funded by the Central government and the State governments. Per family central government upto 100 days employment cost is bear bys central government and The Government of Maharashtra bears the financial burden of the wage expenses of more than 100 days of each family.
