The Maharashtra Right to Public Services Act, 2015, was enacted to ensure that notified services provided by the government and all public authorities under it are delivered transparently, efficiently, and within the stipulated time frame. This Act has been in effect since April 28, 2015. Its objective is to ensure that citizens receive services easily and within the prescribed time.

To monitor, coordinate, regulate, and suggest improvements regarding the delivery of these notified services, the Maharashtra State Commission for Right to Public Services has been established under this Act. The commission comprises a Chief Commissioner and six Commissioners. The headquarters of the commission is located in New Administrative Building, opposite Mantralaya, Mumbai, with offices for commissioners in six divisional headquarters.

If eligible citizens do not receive services within the prescribed time or if the services are denied without valid reasons, they can file a first and second appeal with senior authorities. If they are still dissatisfied, a third appeal can be made to the commission. Negligent officers may be fined up to ₹5,000 per case.
